In the spirit of the holiday season, First Insurance Company of Hawaii teamed up with several local companies to gift two Oahu families with refurbished vehicles.
On December 10, Sheryl Tolentino of Wahiawa received a fully refurbished 2007 Toyota Camry. A single mother, Sheryl serves as the primary caretaker for her 13 year-old son, who has special needs. Having a reliable car makes it easier for her to run errands, make appointments, deliver groceries and necessities to her mother, and to get to and from her job. FICOH donated the salvaged car and parts; UNIBODY Autotech Collision Center donated their labor and new tires, and gave the vehicle a new paint job; and NAPA Hawaii donated the paint materials.
On December 16, the Hayno family of Waianae received the keys to a refurbished 2013 Toyota Highlander. Shantell and Sage Hayno have two children, ages 7 and 2. They have been struggling to make ends meet during the pandemic and living paycheck to paycheck. Their new car provides them with some added stability and allows their small ‘ohana to start off the New Year on more solid footing. FICOH donated the salvaged car and parts, and C&H Body & Fender donated their labor and services.
Both families were identified by Helping Hands Hawaii’s Adopt a Family Program.
This is the fifth consecutive year FICOH has collaborated with community partners to donate vehicles to financially challenged families during the holiday season.
