Kanehira has worked in human resources for more than 25 years. Prior to joining FICOH in 2005 as human resources manager, he held HR positions at Zippy’s, Pihana Pacific, Japan Airlines and a recruitment and staffing company. He currently serves in leadership roles in the Hawaii Compensation Group and Hawaii Business Health Council.

“Derek is well respected within FICOH and by the larger HR community for his innovative ideas, balanced perspective and people focus,” said Allen Uyeda, president and CEO of First Insurance. “He has had a hand in spearheading numerous campaigns and initiatives at FICOH that have benefited our associates and positioned our company favorably in the community. His passion, creativity and leadership will be major assets to our officer team.”

Grimmer began his insurance career in 2001 as a senior actuarial consultant with CNA Insurance in Chicago, where he earned his Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS) designation. Originally from Hawaii, he returned to the islands in 2006 to join FICOH as an actuary. In 2010, he was promoted to Managing Actuary and obtained his Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation. In his new role, he takes on administrative lead for corporate accounting, management reporting, enterprise risk management, as well as actuarial services.

“We are fortunate to have a bright and inquisitive individual like Jeff on our team. His analytical abilities, communication skills and willingness to take on new challenges have already profited our company. We look forward to the contributions he will make to the future of FICOH in his expanded role,” said Uyeda.
