HONOLULU – In 2019, First Insurance Company of Hawaii (FICOH) donated $820,500 and 2,000 volunteer hours, benefiting more than 120 local nonprofit organizations and projects.
Among the organizations that received financial donations in 2019 were Aloha United Way, American Heart Association, American Red Cross, Arthritis Foundation, Bishop Museum, Easterseals Hawaii, Honolulu Museum of Art, Teach for America, The Queen’s Medical Center, and University of Hawaii Foundation.
FICOH associates participating in the First Insurance Community Action Team (First CAT) also spent more than 2,000 hours volunteering at various community organizations. For the 12th consecutive year, First CAT volunteers delivered hot, nutritious meals to homebound seniors every Thursday and Friday for Hawaii Meals on Wheels. They also helped Sustainable Coastlines Hawaii collect 4,000 pounds of debris during their annual Earth Day coastal cleanup. First CAT volunteers also volunteered with the American Red Cross, American Heart Association, Ronald McDonald House, and various local elementary schools.
“From the beginning, First Insurance associates have recognized their responsibility to Hawaii,” said Jeff Shonka, FICOH president and CEO. “One way we strive to fulfill this responsibility is through our support of Hawaii’s nonprofits.”
