Step-by-Step Guide
Document the accident.
If possible, move vehicles out of harm’s way and call 911. When it’s safe, take photos or video of the accident scene, vehicles, and damage. Download our photo guide for specifics. Get the other party’s insurance card, driver’s license, and contact information, as well as the contact information of any witnesses. If a police report was filed, note the report number.
Report your claim and wait for your claim review.

Receive your claim decision and look into estimates and repairs.
Your claims adjuster will contact you and other parties involved and will investigate the accident to determine liability. If coverage and/or liability is verified, you’ll need to choose a repair shop that will provide an estimate and complete your repairs or settle your total loss. You can use our Direct Repair Program to find a prescreened, certified shop.
Wait for payment to be determined.
Depending on the case, claim payments may be issued to the repair shop, to you directly, to you and the lienholder, to you and the repair shop, or to the other party’s insurance carrier.
