A team of FICOH associates, family members and friends traveled to the Loko Ea fishpond on the North Shore on Saturday, November 19 to learn about the work Malama Loko Ea Foundation is doing to restore the traditional fishpond and clear brush to prepare for their upcoming dredging operations. It took Malama Loko Ea Foundation more than five years to raise the funds and receive the necessary permits to begin work. Dredging will deepen the pond, reconnect it to a nearby fishpond, and allow for a healthier environment for fish to grow. Loko Ea is the first Hawaiian fishpond to undergo dredging. The hope is their project will lead the way for other fishponds in need of dredging to restore operations and thrive.
